This month, we’ll delve into Ayurveda, this ancient and comprehensive science. Its origins are in the Vedas, which is believed to be the oldest and richest text of wisdom on spiritual knowledge on the planet. Ayurveda originated in India five to six thousand years ago.
Ayurveda is a science that provides practical tools to achieve overall wellness of mind, body and spirit. It takes a holistic and consciousness-based approach to health, aiming to bring balance and harmony to all areas of life. This wisdom helps us understand the universal laws of nature and recognizes the intrinsic relationship between human beings and the universe. Ayurveda emphasizes the importance of balance and harmony and practices to achieve it in all aspects of a person’s life, including physical, biochemical, intellectual, emotional, behavioural, spiritual, familial, social, environmental, and universal. It considers the multi-dimensional nature of the body, mind and spirit and strongly emphasizes disease prevention through diet, daily routines, seasonal considerations, and elemental connections.
Ayurveda is a holistic system of medicine that believes in the interconnection between the universe and humans through five elements – Air, Fire, Water, Earth, and Ether. These elements combine to form three fundamental energies called “doshas” – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Along with the five elements, Ayurveda also uses “gunas” or qualities to describe various phenomena throughout the natural world.
