Constitutional Iridology: The Inner Ecology of the World Within

“Constitutional Iridology is a system of investigating the body and its functions with the information the body makes available through the iris. It is a living image, not merely of the body as we see it, but also of the process that creates it what it has been, and what it is liable to become. It is as simple, elegant, and specific as the body itself.”

To any natural health practitioner one of the primary focuses is:

How to prevent disease?
What are tendencies and traits that person is born with?
How to prevent these from developing?

Is there a way to treat an individual if there are no symptoms? And if there are, to treat just the symptoms is still not getting to the root of the problem for that is only a short-term approach. To work with the individual’s constitution is the long-term approach. True prevention is treating or better yet teaching the individual about the tendencies they have been born with and what they can do to prevent those tendencies from becoming realities. A Constitutional practitioner is more of a teacher than a clinician. They may make up herbal formulas, give dietary and lifestyle recommendations, but it’s done according to the individual’s unique inborn constitution. This is why Constitutional Iridology should be an essential part of any herbal protocol or health-care regime.

We all inherit certain combinations of physical traits. We can observe some of these origins from our family tree, but how much of this specifically affects you? Diet and lifestyle have a great impact on some people, but why are others able to get away with abusing their bodies? Which mental and emotional aspects significantly affect our physical health? And as we get older, we lose our resiliency at different rates. What is our individual rate?

Iridology takes a lot of the guesswork out of these questions. Going through life without this information is like taking a trip without a map. What are your chances of arriving at your desired destination? Will you get there efficiently, or end up taking many detours along the way? And how will you know where you are heading next?

Using the roadmap or blueprint contained in the iris, you can find out how well you are put together (and how much abuse your body can handle), where your body will tend to get sick, (including which organ systems are at greater risk), what specific underlying reasons contribute to your symptoms (which may vary from person to person with the same symptoms), and what emotional or behavioral factors are influencing these patterns. In short, it can show you where you came from, where you are headed, what kind of body you have for a vehicle, and what type of driver you are. With this knowledge, you can more effectively approach health challenges and also identify which preventive medicine practices would be most important for you to pursue.

Eyes have long been referred to as the “Windows of the Soul.” But few people are aware of just how true this observation is. Accurate analysis of iris structure and pigmentation provides information about you or your clients that is hard to find through other methods. This information is so valuable that Constitutional Iridology deserves to become a widely practiced assessment tool in both the physical and psychological health fields.

There is a multitude of factors that influence our health and personality, and many of these factors are reflected in the iris. Look closely at your eyes in a mirror, and then at the irises of those around you. You will see many different patterns of iris fibres and colours. Like fingerprints or faces, no two are exactly alike, and neither are we! The iris structure is so unique; it is now being used for security identification at ATM machines and airports. Microsoft’s “house of the future” will use an eye scanner to identify residents and unlock the door.

Constitutional Iridology draws from principles of Ayurveda, Asian medicine, traditional and contemporary theories of human behaviour and spiritual psychology. The accent is more on the development of the skill of listening, with openness, so that the most significant interpretive model with respect to the person can come forth into consciousness and a discussion can commence.

It views the iris of the eye as a symbol of the equilibrium that can exist between two opposing forces – the duality of human existence. Iris signs and landmarks tell us of storage and release, deficiency and excess, contraction and dilation, hyperplasia and hypoplasia, light and dark, overactivity and under activity, etc. We can also view the iris signs as expressions of deviation from equilibrium, but that clearly implies a strong motive for seeking balance. Constitutional Iridology shows us that it is in the nature of human existence to be bipolar and that it is natural, imperative, and automatic that we seek a unity of opposing forces.

The body signs of illness and the related iris signs demonstrate our potential to be “whole” in the context of polarity. The part of us that is not living in consciousness, that is in the shadow, will embody itself as a proclamation of its right to live and be expressed in consciousness.

Our body’s wisdom gives us signs and symptoms to what our consciousness lacks. It makes us truthful. Disease, as the grand equalizer, prevents us from losing our way from the road to oneness. It is, paradoxically, a path to perfection!

This diagnosis model helps us to see that any given difficult area in the psyche will uncover its organic counterparts in a particular physical dynamic, though not necessarily parallel to one particular organ. Many of the iris markings are genetically predetermined points of least resistance that has the role of taking over the learning process each time we fail consciously to work on the deeper level problem to which the organ and functions in question correspond. We are reminded that the body is where a process, originating at a deeper stage, reaches its most superficial or material point.

Iridology reminds us that the meaning of a certain event only surfaces as a result of interpreting it since it is the interpretation that facilitates us to experience it as significant. For example, the yellowing and curling of the leaf of a tree are meaningless, until we interpret it as a change in temperature and dryness of the soil in the hot, midday July sun. Likewise, an iris marking is meaningless until we interpret it in the context of the consciousness of the person whose iris it is.

Every disorder and disease offers a challenge and an opportunity to discover the problem that underlies it. If we see illness as merely a random, mechanico-physical disturbance, the opportunity will pass by and the challenge will only intensify.

The Principles of Constitutional Iridology

The iris is a projection of the ‘whole’ body. The body is a holographic projection of the being, mind and spirit, manifesting the thoughts, emotions, intuitions and everything that makes a person unique. One can approach or interact with the whole human being in all his/her parts and manifestations through the body and, for our purposes, through the iris of the eye.

Every aspect of an individual originates from the interior foundation or essence of his/her being. The body, the personality, movements, attitudes, perceptions and dreams are all fundamental basics inside a unitary system. All are expressions of the person’s essence. They are so interconnected that it is impossible to analyze just one or to alter it without influencing the others. Every individual is allocated by genetics an iridic representation marking a unique flow pattern of biological energy. The flow pattern results from the combination of physical and mental energetic patterns that reveal the unfinished issues of preceding generations as well as the individual’s own history.

Physical and psychological issues may result from unresolved experiences in your history. Your body always lives in the here and now, but your awareness often lags behind, playing and replaying different variations of former events. You have a past that dominates your present life to a certain degree.

Traditionally, Iridology has been concerned with genetic adaptation and the processing of
physio-biological materials. Constitutional Iridology concerns itself with much more than that. The iris demonstrates the connections between life’s situations and biological, psychological and energetic adaptive mechanisms. The study and analysis of the human iris with such an important directive necessitates a release of narrow-mindedness and judgment and an opening to the investigation of latest paradigms and research.

“The iris – is a mandala, is a point of access from where the abiding mystery can commence to unravel.”
